Armed group that hanged Beshear in effigy demands apology for being called 'terrorists' [View all]
Members of an armed group that five months ago hanged Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear in effigy demanded an apology from him Friday for labeling them terrorists.
"We are not racists, white supremacists, right-wing fanatics nor are we domestic terrorists," the Kentucky 3Percenters wrote in a statement emailed to The Courier Journal on Friday by the group's secretary, Patsy Bush.
These comments came after The Courier Journal reached out to the group to ask what it thought of the foiled militia plot to abduct and possibly execute Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. The statement from the Kentucky group does not directly address or explicitly condemn the abduction plan.
Law enforcement on Thursday announced the arrest of 13 people who allegedly plotted to abduct Whitmer, including seven who belong to an armed extremist group called the Wolverine Watchmen.
