There are 5 parties. So if the Conservatives go GOP Canadians flock to the left or centre left party that can win. Which so far has meant the Liberals. The conservatives need to come off as harmless to get some centre votes. Now there is another conservative party. They are on the extreme end so I don't think they will take votes away from conservatives because conservatives are ahead in the polls and conservatives themselves will break for the conservative party that can win. Provincial Ontario conservative government of Doug Ford just backtracked on spending cuts everywhere. They have sunk in the polls after being in power for a year. It is going to be a bumpy ride for all parties. If conservatives get corrupt or manipulative like the GOP or Trump, Canadians will reject them. So right now their whole campaign is we are benign we are benign we are benign. But they have tried in the past to start fox news North (it failed) and breighbart North (it sunk after it supported nuts in charlottesville). Basically Canadians have not been hugely brainwashed and they look south and are aghast.
