The light comes on but it takes about 15 minutes to show my homepage.

After I posted this question and your reply I remembered that what my problem is is probably due to my board being trashed. I'd forgotten that a couple years ago lightning struck close by and knocked out my modem and when they replaced it they upgraded to a wireless one so I went to wireless so I wouldn't have a wired connection to my computer from the dsl line. I didn't realize that my board was fried because my computer didn't have a wireless card and I had to put one in so I didn't try my wired connection at that time, I was just happy that it didn't take out my computer, totally. The cable company put in a wired modem and that was when I noticed the problem. computer is fine, settings are correct, my problem I believe now is due to that lightning strike trashing my wired connection card.
Thanks for the help because it helped jar my memory to see the problem lies with my computer afterall.

I think it might be time for me to buy a new computer as this one is getting pretty long of tooth.
Peace
Have a great Easter.
All is well
