Using mockery and insults to try to get people to change the way they think about a particular topic doesn't work. When one's response to differences in opinion is to vilify and denigrate the other person no progress is made, even though it may bring some satisfaction, along the lines of "well, I really put that asshole in their place!" When all you've got is snark and insults you're wasting your time, and more importantly, mine.
