He started the 401k about 5 years before losing the job, and has not been getting quarterly statements. I wish I knew something (anything) about investments etc so I could steer him in the right direction but I'm clueless.

Right now I'm thinking it would be great if he could have a sit-down consultation with someone - - would an Accountant be able to guide him?
