larger the better, but local (not a chain like those “cash-for-gold” places. If you know any coin collectors ask them who is best. Stay away from jewelry places that might also sell gold.

Buy by the weight, don’t pay extra for a recent-issue coin. Ask what is the cheapest you can get an ounce for. Bullion is cheapest, but you might want to stay with government minted coins.

Been a few years since I bought any, but expect to pay $50 - $100/oz over spot price. You can look at spot price at kitco.com or 321gold.com.

If you got some spare change after buying gold, buy a bit of silver also.
