1. If I had a 5 year old these days, and I could afford the childcare, I would not send them

to kindergarten at 5. The way kindergarten - and tragically, now the universal pre-k's - are set up these days, they are developmentally appropriate only for a child who is much older than 5. More like late 6 or 7, so I'd think about sending them at 6.
