Former dictator of Brazil was voted out of office and replaced by a President who vowed not to allow clear-cutting in order to help save the planet's "lungs". Unfortunately, destruction of the rain forests of Brazil was uncontrolled with illegal logging, clear-cutting to make many illegal cattle ranching operations, notwithstanding the destruction caused by exploitation of natural resources such as gold, oil, and many others. The resulting uncontrolled disastrous pollution by again, illegal criminal enterprises has been clearly understood for decades. Brazil is a typical third world toilet with graft and political corruption the norm. Being deeply religious in most sectors, over population is also a norm, with it comes many poor citizens without proper government infrastructure like schools, medical care, etc. Ignorance runs deep and it's easy to see why Brazil and other Latin and South American countries are forever in a vicious cycle, whether politically labeled as right or left wing. The end result is a strongman dictator.

Now, Brazil is faced with a biodiversity killing long term drought that has worldwide ramifications. The new president has made some hopeful statements in regards to protecting the Amazon, but the jury is out and we will see if he can fulfill his ambitions or will he fall prey to corruption that seems to be engrained in their culture. If the drought continues, every indication says it will, the tipping point is right around the corner in terms of world wide climate change and global warming. Greed wins. I feel bad for the thousands of unique species of plants and animal inhabitants that call the Brazilian rain forest their home.
