I didn’t care all that much for my High School American History teacher, but one of the few decent things I learned in his class was the principle that (as he put it) “Your right to swing your fist ends at the tip of my nose.”
(In essence: you are free to do as you please, up to the point that you cause harm to others. Of course, actually swinging your fist just beyond the tip of my nose constitutes “menacing.” )
