The deal with home made is that it isn't pasteurized like that you buy at the store. There are a ton of natural probiotics that are removed when processed. I read somewhere that you get way more than you would in the pills.

I happened across a great 2 gallon, wide mouth jar at a yard sale and thought I'd try to make a bunch using two heads. Ended up with 8 pint jars. Two days and half a pint is gone. The more I eat the better it taste.

Also vitamine C. Sailors use to make it for long trips so they wouldn't get scurvy.

Give it a try. Just squeeze it real good with your hands to get it nice and juicy.
