1. I used to hang out at the NYC comedy clubs way back when, and, yeah...

a lot of the comics were pretty dreadful. Many dreams slaughtered on those stages. But, I also saw Leno, Andy Kaufmann, and a whole bunch of others before anyone knew who they were.

To be fair, comedy is incredibly difficult-- it's tough enough to get decent material, but then reading your audience and adapting is a fine art. It took guts to stand up there. Even more to get up there the second time.
