Early into AA, I heard a lot of wise old-timers tell a lot of newcomers to not start any new relationships for the first year or so and to keep the focus 100% on ourselves.

Not for me to judge, but evidence suggests this guy is not serious about sobriety. I've not seen many people stay in recovery that take on a bunch of new resentments, hatreds and fears.
