I'm curious to see the answer. Some real seasoned pros there. Maybe a little surly and short but good folks.

(edit to add: I would be curious what you plumber means by too shallow. Plumbing is recommended to drop 1/4 inch per foot. That's pretty shallow. Too much pitch and the water runs faster than the waste leaving the waste behind. That can also cause problems.)


That said:

I think some brands are better than others. The plumbers really seem to like Toto.

I just installed a Toto dual flush in my neighbor's last night. I noticed the directions said not to install the toilet in a back-to-back configuration due to the pressure the toilet exerts (prevent bubbling in the other toilet).

This Toto really seems to blast the flush but is sure is a little pool of water in the bowl. Which leads me to:

If you go with the low flow, try to get the "sanigloss" or the equivalent. Having less water in the bowl means more things want to stick to the bowl. Sanigloss is SUPPOSED to make the sides more slippery.

One of my complaints with our comfort high elongated bowl Kohler dual flush is the, ahem, STUFF that sticks to the side. Instead of having a big pool of water for Mr. Stinky to dive in, there is a rather small target of water to hit.

There is something to be said about the old toilets. My buddy has this old toilet in his summer home. You forget how much water was in them until you see one. It's like a small swimming pool compared to my newer toilets. I laugh every time I flush it - it's like a whirlpool. But they are a HUGE waste of water.
