My poor maple tree had to have a big limb amputated [View all]

Turns out it had been struck by lightning. Not sure when. I know the TV antenna was struck and the tree guy said that strike might have arched to the tree.

Anyway, last night they removed the limb and now I'm waiting for them to come back and clear up the debris. I'm keeping any wood that is fireplace worthy. We'll probably end up having to rent a wood splitter because it was a substantially sized limb.

The limb was over the enclosed porch so if it had snapped, there would have been substantial damage. It was obvious, when he was towards the end of removing it, that there was way too much 'give' for it to have lasted much longer.

Fortunately, losing that limb doesn't really have any impact on my nice shady area that I love so much.
