between plants I am aware of is black walnut roots and tomato plants - the nut roots produce juglone, which inhibits tomato plant growth and kills them.

I plant whatever I want together for whatever looks best, or is most useful.

Lots of the anecdotes around companion planting are about pest attracting - it isn't the plants that battle, but some plants draw pests that attack the other plant even worse.
