What a tiny little bundle of wonder.
Yesterday there was quite a commotion during the next door kitties' supervised outing. Our yards are joined and the kitties are welcome to play in my yard and on my porch, as long as they don't head toward the street they are safe. It turns out that the unit, where the granny with a gun used to live, is being painted by my friend who used to be the maint. supt. here. He retired in Dec. He's been"sitting" a dog who belongs to an office person at our landlord org. a poodle mix, medium sized.
Well, the kittens had decided to play closer to my house and I was on my way home but decided to stop in and say hi to my friend in the empty unit but was unaware that the dog was with him. Well, the dog made the mistake of coming out and deciding to chase one of the kittens who was near the porch. He likes to chase cats. Little did he know that the MOM was close by and when she saw him go after the kitten, it became a wild scene. Mom cat is Mikey's girlfriend, a tortie-point manx, just stay out of her way! Well she became a bolt of lightning and landed on the dog's back and he couldn't get away. I got her off him and he ran up on the porch but came back down when she ran up and attacked again, this time firmly affixed to his hind end. He ran back up on the porch and we, somehow, managed to separate them as the dog ran back inside the unit.
All of them, except the mom - Peeps, were traumatized. After rounding up the cats into their house I went to check on the dog. He wasn't harmed, had a small cut on his butt so we cleaned it and put some disinfectant on it. Then my buddy had a good laugh at how the dog finally found out what can happen when you chase kitties.
It was a teachable moment for the kittens and the dog. Dog learned that chasing cats can get you a bite on the ass and the kittens learned there are bad things outside. They were all back to normal by dinner time. We all had a good laugh, because nobody was hurt and so many lessons were learned, we hope.
