Mount Morris Man Ropes Woman into Buying Gun for Him, Cops Arrest Both [View all]
LIVONIA A joint investigation by the Livingston County Sheriffs Office and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) resulted in the arrest of two local residents for allegedly exploiting loopholes in the law to procure a firearm.
According to a press release from Sheriff Thomas Dougherty, Dale Bettis, 45, of Mount Morris, was arrested for four felony counts of Criminal Purchase or Disposal of a Weapon and Cathy Allison, 48, of Livonia, was arrested for Unlawful Private Sale of a Firearm, Shotgun, or Rifle.
The Livingston County Sheriffs Office conducted a joint investigation with the ATF into a possible straw purchase of a firearm that occurred in the Town of Livonia involving Bettis and Allison.
The investigation alleges that Bettis attempted to purchase firearms at an estate sale in Bergen, NY but failed the mandatory background check. Bettis then allegedly convinced Allison to purchase the firearms for him, then give him the firearms in the Town of Livonia, without going through a Federal Firearms Licensed dealer, making it impossible to trace that the firearms exchanged hands.
