This young draftee was pulled from his infantry (11B) AIT, with half a dozen others, and transferred to Personnel Specialist (71H) class, mostly because we raised our hands at morning formation when the sergeant asked "who can use a typewriter?".

Nobody ever suggested to a draftee that jumping out of airplanes might be a good idea. Not when you have perfectly good feet so you can use to run everywhere.

I never figured out whether that fateful transfer was a good thing or not. But the Army sent me to a place where I could sample many good German beers, and I never tasted the beers of Vietnam.
