My spouse has never had a rash, but has had shingles at least 4 times. Each time we caught it early enough to prevent a rash (and were lucky enough the first time to find a doctor who took it seriously). She's had the anti-viral medication, been miserable for a couple of weeks, and then waited for the next time.
The first incident was around the bra band line, but stopped at the midline of her body. That, and the nature of the pain, were what allowed her to get early treatment.
Shes had it at least twice after the Zostavax vaccination. Now she's had Shingrix. With luck, that will solve the problem.

Also be attentive to an occurrence. If immediately knocked down with antiviral, it is very effective

My neighbor went blind in one eye because of it. He was also in pain for an eternity.
