Nicki Minaj draws backlash for comparing herself to Harriet Tubman [View all]

Nicki Minaj drew considerable backlash after she compared her fight against streaming services
to Harriet Tubman freeing slaves.

All the QUEENS I remember, SHOOK S--- UP!!!!!!!! Minaj tweeted. Queen of the week may go to HARRIET TUBMAN!!!!!! Had she just sat there & ate her rice, you n------ history would’ve been a lot less triumphant.

Many on social media were quick to condemn her, with one user with the name Manatee Max writing, I'm not sure if there's a person in the US alive today who can respectfully compare themself (sic) to ‘Harriet Tubman.’" Another named Bobby Jarel wrote, Harriet helped people. She didn’t start childish petty beef with people because she thought she was on a pedestal and deserved respect. Respect is earned. Not in album sales but in humility and how you treat others.

... as she was on her way to the MTV Video Music Awards at Radio City Music Hall in Midtown on Monday evening, Minaj told a TMZ cameraman, I am the new Harriet Tubman.
