1. He is an amazing author!

A long time ago, he wrote a series of books on geology across the USA, at about the 40th parallel. The New Yorker published them in segments and I devoured them.

Then somewhat later, he combined them all into one rather large volume, which he titled "Annals of the Former World."

My husband, knowing of my passion for geology, gave it to me for my birthday in 1998. It is a wonderful read.

I recommend it highly!
