9. Some sports writers out there are spewing on about how this will affect his NFL draft position

I seriously doubt that, with this caveat.

If a team thought he was a great LB, they wouldn't be put off too much by this thing, compared to the guys who have violent criminal records. At least Manti didn't ever beat up his "girlfriend" (as far as we know).

However, the NFL draft people are fairly sophisticated. Some of them will figure out that Te'o was really a mostly mediocre player,who was elevated to cult status because of this scam. They will draft him based on his actual abilities versus the legend. The exposure of his big scam, per se, doesn't push him down in the draft. But the draft scout who was already planning to put him down about 20 positions now has a much better basis for explaining that decision.
