All we have, as humans, are facts and logic. Since one cannot prove or disprove their religion, their religion is neither factual nor logical. Rather religion is based on faith. Therefore once cannot assert their religion as a basis for anything beyond their own person. This is what I mean by religion being personal.
For this reason I find the idea of "nominal," as mineralman posits, to be the inverse of imposing one's religious beliefs on others, and equally egregious.
