(4,925 posts)I was always the new kid because we moved around. Back in the 50s, it was common for teachers to hand out Valentines by standing in front of the class, reaching into the big basket where wed all put our cards, and calling out the recipients names. The popular girls giggled as they collected their dozens. I think I got one once but Im not sure. Last year, here at DU, I surprised myself by being very affected by this heart-giving thing. I was back in grade school, waiting and hoping for a Valentine, while at the same time laughing at myself for being such a ninny. I did get hearts and was grateful. But Im bothered by all the threads gushing Oh thank you so much for my hearts! You love me, you really love me! Because there are silent members (like I was before this post) who are the new kids looking down at the floor as their names are never called. So...I will never start such a thread, but I thank you for my hearts...with all my heart.
