Who knows when, exactly, Christ was really born.
As you know, the date is simply a holdover from the Pagan Winter Solstice festivities.
Jesus' purported life story (his greatness as an activist and philosopher notwithstanding), a retelling of the Osiris myth.
Biblical scholars themselves agree that December would've been a most unlikely date given the presence of shepherds at the time (suggesting Spring) or the "Star of Bethlehem" - almost certainly a Jupiter/Saturn conjunction whose closest occurrence, astronomers tell us, would have been in October, 7 BC.
In short, no one knows - not clergy, and certainly not televangelists.
So, yes: A Very Happy Festivus to you and yours too, dupagelib.
