2016 Postmortem
In reply to the discussion: Months after the primary, I'm still seeing dozens of Bernie yard signs, and *no* Hillary signs. [View all]MADem
(135,425 posts)I'll leave them to future generations--they'll be worth a fortune some day!
But DISPLAY them? Hell no! What's the point?
Anyone who is so stupid that they'd vote for someone because they see a sign on a stranger's lawn is probably too dumb to find the polling booth on election day. Signs and bumper stickers make the OWNER of them feel good. They're also attractants to vermin who would wish you ill--there are TRUMPeters who just might want to key your car for your Bernie sticker, or poison your dog for your yard sign.
This is a weird world--why invite trouble by announcing to people who don't give a shit about you who you are voting for? It's more "LOOK AT ME" than "Support my candidate."
Further, I think that the type of people who vote for HRC don't have a need to "Rah rah" and hoot-n-holler. They just get up off their ass and go vote. Quietly and with determination.
Also, I have found that the number of signs is inversely proportional to the likelihood of victory. Massachusetts was STINKIN' from all the Romney 4 Prez signs--that didn't work out too well for him, did it?
I'm in MA, too--and I'm not seeing many signs for anyone. A few "BERNIE" bumperstickers, and the very odd Trump hat on the street -- but that pretty much bears out my thesis. Because ALL my neighbors voted for Clinton.
