(42,461 posts)I understand we all want to understand what happened but there a number of factors. What 'sides" are doing is debating which factors contributed the most. The Democratic Party itself cannot align itself with racist ideology, for instance, or support privatization of Medicare, or any number of fatally flawed Republican ideas. We under-estimated the anger of hard core Republicans who hated, HATED president Obama, and being the big tent party, when we tried to present a united, cohesive message, there were too many on the left who hated him, and dispised Hillary Clinton as well.
The party is not any more flawed than any other party and far better than most, but by its very nature it attracts people who simply don't like it and want it to be something else.
