(57,936 posts)But now, the very wealthy hire tax lawyers and accountants and POLITICIANS who reduce their tax share and increase rhe share of taxes that the less wealthy pay. Taxes pay for roads, homeland security, police of all kinds, fire fighters, schools, scientific research, parks, part of our health care, regulation of pharmaceuticals, of meats and other foods, of the media, of our elections, so many things we take for granted.
Yes, taxes are good because we get good things and services in exchange for them, and those who make the most money have to pay the largest part of them because the rest of us cannot.
Yes. Government put us on the moon. Government built and maintains our system of national highways. It is government that manages our national parks. And in some cases that park management protects us from grave dangers. One example is the national park's management of the known volcanoes in our country. For example, Mount Saint Helens. The government tracks seismic activity, tornadoes, hurricanes and wildfires and droughts. No matter where we live, we benefit from those services. Without government, those services could and would not be performed as they are because there is no profit in watching aseismic chart measuring activity under what appears tp be an inactive volcano for example.
And if wealthy people really thought debt was so evil, they would not lend so much money. Rich people get richer by lending money. What would they do without the tax breaks they get for lending money to the government. Here in California, a succession of Republican conservative governments put us in the hole, mired in debt. It took liberals, Jerry Brown and aa Democratic legislature to get our finances back in order.
Bernie Sanders is not a big spender. He is not e one with a helicopter. He is conservative when it comes to money. He voted to audit the Fed and wants to audit our military if elected.
Yes. Bernie wisely voted against the Iraq War Resolution and for auditing the Fed.
