Running a winning campaign is about data, and he has a blind spot when it comes to seeing beyond that data. It's a problem that caused his failures as mayor.
If he wins and believes that win came because he pulled Republican voter to his side. He's not going to turn around and make the calculation that they will stay with him no matter his running mate.
McCain's run against Obama as a perfect example. I don't think those so-called Obama/Trump voter switched because they believed or liked Obama's message. They couldn't see themselves voting for Mccain and risking Palin becoming president. They didn't want an incompetent woman like Palin, and they hated the most qualified woman, Clinton.
I'd say the same about any of the candidates running on their suppose strength to reach the other side.
