(15,052 posts)in Houston (where I lived at the time) "The National Women's Conference of 1977 was a four-day event during November 1821, 1977, as organized by the National Commission on the Observance of International Women's Year. The conference drew around, 2,000 delegates along with 15,000-20,000 observers in Houston, Texas. Wikipedia" I naively thought our state (and nation) surely would go forward to even more progressive actions. However, I completely under estimated the far right's hold on our oil based economy and the religious community's stranglehold on the concept of women as secondary human beings. Any person who participated in that conference who was fast forwarded to the present would be disgusted at what our state has become. The most progressive woman in our local Dem group labels me an optimist. Sadly no longer true.
