statement (PRIOR to the first bout) on their policies for inclusion, why other boxing groups with differing policies are not considered by IOC, and frankly, why that specific boxing officiating group was not acknowledged in any way by IOC. No naming of athletes, no specifics, no innuendo--just some clarification that could have anticipated some confusion and controversy. Then allow that press release commentary speak for them and leave it there.

I don't like violent sports so boxing is not my thing... but I am sorry that these athletes were left vulnerable to this public controversy and very uninformed outrage.

If there is to be any change in inclusion policies going forward-- for any reason, for men's or women's categories or newly developed categories and sporting events-- they need to be clarified and publicized well in advance of future Olympics or other competitive events. The athletes deserve better. All of them.
