I think there is one of two possibilities.
One - it isn't close and we will win big time - polling and the news media cannot accurately figure out what's really going on.
Two - Society is weirding out so much it no longer is capable of understanding reality in which case societal collapse is inevitable. I don't think we have more than 40 years in this case.
In a way I think this battle is between good and evil. I hope we win.
