5. Agreed, many of us still adhere to notions of loyalty

But my own experiences with veterans groups, and military members I served with when I was in the Air Force, has been as I describe.

Now, as the military has become more diverse and as Korea, Vietnam and Cold War veterans age out, and as more women and minority veterans come to leadership in the veteran community, there will likely be change. But as of now, the National leadership of both the VFW and the Legion remains pretty much tied to the right wing, see recent VFW correspondence on immigration as an example.
