When I moved my residence to Germany, I was 59. I was quoted 30,000 a year ($36,000 at the time) for health insurance. I have an American employer, so no German health insurance covered me. To get German residence, you have to show proof of health insurance. Ironically, when I showed them my useless Blue Cross of Texas health insurance provided by my employer, they accepted it as proof that I had Health Insurance.
I still get comments of protest from the everything-is-free-in-Europe crowd, but most of them now know better. Maybe everything is free in the Peoples Republic of Sanderstan, but here in the real world, its not.

I think the question was asked merely because you expressed a fear being deported

You said, " I don't want to be deported". That naturally leads to responses such as the one that you are raging against.

Without minimizing your own concerns, I'm about as confident as I've been since Pres. Clinton's second run.
