there was a law passed that requires states to accept each other's marriages so, no they wouldn't become legal strangers in a world without Obergefell. But in issuance of licenses for those marriages you might see large number of states in which that would stop. NC has a ban in the Constitution that will be nearly impossible to lift. So NC would stop issuing licenses the next day.
