(16,683 posts)It was a centrist campaign and not a campaign for working class people. This is part of the Democratic Party's general problem. Whether or not it is strictly true, they are seen as the party of "elites" (which is never really defined, but I take it to mean college educated, middle to upper middle class people).
Biden was actually very successful at policies that helped the working class but it seemed like Harris tried to separate herself from him (due to his unpopularity, which was undeserved). It turned into a very centrist campaign (and attempting to appeal to disaffected Republicans backfired as well).
So I think the point in general is that Democrats need a sort of economic populism. Not the sort of right-wing populism that blames poor economies on immigrants but: making corporations and rich people pay their fair share, raising the federal minimum wage, encouraging and supporting union membership (which Biden did do) and the like.
