(265 posts)At the moment, it's crunch time where I work so focusing on that is providing a temporary sense of normality. In general, however, I will be going inward and taking a mini "Amish" approach to my existence by withdrawing from the world's madness. I am minimizing consumption of news and shifting my focus to creative endeavors and simple activities that center around home. I have adopted an attitude of outward indifference to combat the cruelty of the coming administration and the supporters thereof. I refuse to be "owned" by the Magas; in fact, I will not even permit them to rent or borrow 30 seconds of my inattention. They feed off of our pain, fear, and despair. I feel all of those things deeply, but all they will see is my indifference. I have six bookcases filled with delightful reading material, a closet filled with jigsaw puzzles, and a ton of quilting, painting, and knitting supplies. I bought a bread maker and I am collecting recipes that I find comforting. I'm eying my house with respect to offloading unnecessary items and thinking about painting a room or two. I'm narrowing my focus and my goals to those activities that I can attain and that I enjoy; and I'm disengaging from those which feed my despair and destroy my mental and physical health. We probably cannot overcome much of what is headed our way, but we CAN outlast it.
