A few reality checks and considerations with the election results given the winning partys platform:
1. If you have a child who will enter college in 2-3 years, plan on very few grants and high interest loans (and less availability of financial options). A push towards trades.
2. Defunding the Dept. Of Education will privatize all schooling. This means that if public schools are to stay funded, your local taxes will go up. There will be teacher shortages, and the literacy rates and education attainment will decrease.
3. Deportation of immigrants whether waiting on nationalization or citizenship, or living without documentation will severely leave holes unfilled in the labor market. Services and products that rely on these jobs will skyrocket prices (think anything in produce or farming, meat processing, construction, and of course all areas of the service, and travel industry).
4. States rights will matter the most. Plan to determine the landscape of your own state, because what may be legal or regulated in one, could be vastly different in another (beyond what already exists).
5. The war with Ukraine will end shortly and it will face a win by Russia. Be mindful that this will be unchecked power that will be tested during the next presidency, not this one.
6. The economy is currently headed in a positive direction. It will continue for at least 1, maybe 2 years. But the squeeze will come in year 3 and you should be prepared.
7. Contraception in all forms will be eliminated. Be prepared for more children born in the United States and the costs that will be passed down due to healthcare, loss of parents in the job market having to remain at home, and no additional childcare options. The ripples will mean higher funding for social service programs, increases to the number of children in the child welfare system, and yes, this means all of us locally will pay more taxes to fund these mandated requirements.
Good, bad, ugly; doesnt matter, the popular vote has decided this is what it wanted. I wish us all the best and may love be at the center as you navigate the ripple effect. Peace be with you.
