14. Well, here I'm talking about *peaceful* or at least *relatively peaceful* secession.

IANAL, but I know that the lawyers and scholars say it's a one-way street. States can't vote to leave or litigate their way out of the Union.

As for violent secession, we fought a war that resulted in more than 600,000 deaths as a direct result of the conflict, with secondary casualties adding to a grand total of more than 1,000,000 deaths. The level of savagery in that war even today is totally incomprehensible (see the "Battle of the Bloody Angle", for just one example). I can't imagine what Civil War 2.0, fought with modern weapons, would even look like.
