Saying we are not defeated - "we have hope!" and actually not being defeated are not necessarily the same thing or even related to each other.

No, I will never get used to hope as a substitute for results, and I have seen 50 years of hope but diminishing results. Democrats hope. Republicans go for the throat. Don't hope, fight.

I refuse to deny that we are in a virtually hopeless situation, with no clear path out of the nightmare, and that we fight on because it is the only thing to do, whether or not we have hope.

Courage, determination, resolve are needed. There is no longer any time or eergy to waste on that old weak fall back, hope.
