The Fourth Turning Is Here. [View all]

Everyone here, everyone dismayed by the election results, every person who can read, needs to read this book. It's by Neil Howe, and in summary is about the four seasons of life as applied to humans and our societies. We are in the final, fourth season (or turning). Essentially things are going to get a lot worse before they suddenly, at the end of this turning, essentially everything will change and we'll all start a new and vastly better way of life.

Think of the period from the beginning of the Great Depression in 1929 to the end of World War II. It was a time of great despair and hardship, and at the end our culture was transformed.

Howe figures this won't end until the early or perhaps mid 2030s, so we all need to hang in there.

I'm 76, so although I'm in excellent health and have been semi-joking for years about plans for my 97th birthday (there's an eclipse right around then I want to see). I realize that I may or may not make it through this time.

So please, please read the book.
