Hitler carried out purges among his military leaders after taking office. A significant example was the Night of the Long Knives in 1934, primarily aimed at eliminating potential rivals and consolidating power. While the main targets were the SA (Sturmabteilung) leadership, some army officers who opposed Hitler were affected. Later, during the war, Hitler dismissed or sidelined many generals who either disagreed with his strategies or failed to meet his expectations, further consolidating his control over the military.
