I don't think they want us to quit the game - and it is a game to them - I think they would be lost without us rising to the bait again and again. "Owning the libs" is the fuel that drives their movement. Engaging them at all means they win. Rather than building a powerful working class movement outside of electoral politics, we are wasting time and energy trying to "own the MAGAs" - we are playing right into their hands.
The electoral politics system has not worked. It cannot work in isolation from social ad economic forces. Income inequality, the loss of meaningful work, the poor quality of goods and services, and the destruction of the environment - by any measurement things have steadily gotten worse in those vital areas for most of the people for decades now. The monopolists of today would make the Robber Barons green with envy. Overarching all of that, the planet is being burned to a crisp and made incompatible with human existence. The answer to that cannot be "vote more!"
It is not defeatism to walk away from a game where we are playing badminton and the opposition is throwing live hand grenades back over the net.
