Although some of the economy is doing quite well, wealth inequality has resulted in a large underclass struggling to get by and, moreover, being blamed for not making it. As someone who works in animal rescue, let me tell you I have never before seen such an epidemic of people abandoning animals they can’t afford to care for. A booming stock market means nothing to any of them.
