Some big achievements of the ACA:
1. No more pre-existing conditions exclusions (the bit that's most relevant to this thread)
2. No more lifetime limits on essential health services
3. Expanded medicaid, allowing millions more people to qualify for medicaid

If you don't think the ACA has made a difference it's probably because of 1., you don't have a pre-existing condition that would have denied you coverage under the old system or 3., you don't know anybody that's poor with no dependent children that is now getting medicaid.
