I don't know about the specific folks mentioned in the article, but internet sleuths in general have helped solve a lot of crimes.

There are tons of AARP members who have UHC and contribute mightily to the
allegorical oracle

Doubtful. Mostly AARP handles Medicare Supplement plans, which are pretty tightly regulated.
