... if you don't have any solid reasons of your own for having them tied to you somehow. I think especially if you want to be a political leader like Bernie is now.
A demonstration of this is when the recent Doctor Who was wearing a Turkish fez to "be cool".
A further note on this is that in Turkey many cultural icons such as fezes and head scarves that people associated with Turks and muslim culture were banned in many parts of the country as a part of leader Ataturk's efforts to westernize the country after it was the Ottoman Empire, and to help keep religious divisions of different religious sects there from being the source of violence, etc. Much like many schools in some cities ban "colors" being worn that might provoke gang violence.
