Repeated litigation without cause is called vexatious litigation. Vexatious litigation is a legal proceeding that is brought with malice and without good cause to harass, embarrass, or cause legal expenses to the defendant. It can be a primary frivolous lawsuit or the repetitive filing of meritless motions.
Vexatious litigation is considered an abuse of the judicial process and can result in sanctions against the offender. Sanctions can include:
Payment of all attorney fees and other legal fees incurred by the defendant
Contempt of court charges
Fines
Disbarment of the lawyer or firm
Being forbidden from any further legal action
Being required to obtain prior permission from a senior judge before taking any legal action
