and we no longer live in a representative democracy or a constitutional republic but instead are ruled by a dictator or tyrant or an oppressive oligarchy with a puppet president.

At that point a civil uprising might be worth considering. If a nonviolent uprising proved ineffective there might be no other choice but a violent revolution. I'm not saying that a violent revolution would have much chance of success but it would have a far better chance if the citizens were armed. Much would depend on which side the military would support.

Realize that I am not saying that we are anywhere near that point today. In my opinion we will survive a Trump presidency although it might prove a bumpy ride. Still the fact that Trump was able to win despite his arrogant and obnoxious personality shows that even in our nation change can happen rapidly.
