I turn 65 next month, and I applied on-line (from work, I hasten to add) in June. It arrived in about two weeks.

In my case I have a part time job at a hospital that has very good benefits, so I only signed up for part A. All of the choices involved when I eventually leave the job and will have to consider my choices for the other parts gives me a headache.
